The Glens pay tribute to the Lisbon Lions of Scotland in another year of partnership with the timeless Guinness brand.
A kit six decades in the making.
The San Francisco Glens Soccer Club unveiled their 2026 primary jerseys with green-and-white hoops Wednesday, paying tribute to their historic 1966 encounter with the iconic Lisbon Lions of Scotland — the eventual champions of Europe who befriended the Glens and gifted the club their jerseys during their Bay Area visit that summer.“Our home kit this season is a nod to the past, marking the 60th anniversary of our founders meeting the future European champions in San Francisco during their summer tour in 1966 — a moment that shaped the identity of the Glens,” said Mike McNeill, Executive Director of the SF Glens. “The reintroduction of the classic hoops reflects a tradition we’ve proudly carried at different moments throughout our history, now reimagined for the next generation of players and supporters.”The distinctive golden Guinness harp has returned front and center to both the primary and secondary kits as the SF Glens continue a meaningful partnership with the world-renowned brand.
In conjunction with new kit provider Aretyn, the Glens paid homage to this pivotal moment for the club by reimagining this timeless look with appreciation and detail, while also designing distinctive charcoal black secondary tops to represent the Glens away from home.
“Our ongoing and incredibly successful partnership with Guinness continues to connect the club to its roots and community, and working closely with Aretyn, we’ve brought to life a design that feels authentic to who we are,” McNeill said.
The Glens are entering the 2026 campaign with their most-ever homegrown academy players on their USL League Two and WPSL sides. This emphasis on Bay Area talent reflects the Scottish champions’ success with players born and raised in the area surrounding their home pitch in Glasgow, which ultimately culminated in a historic season and a European Championship victory in Lisbon in May 1967.
A closer look at the details of the primary jersey highlights both the Glens’ history and the club’s future as it celebrates its 65th anniversary. Within the green stripes on the primary kit are embossed images of a Celtic cross and shamrocks, which, alongside the bold black San Francisco Glens logo, allude to the regional origins of the club and its development into the present.
On the back of the home jersey, the seal of the City and County of San Francisco is embedded within a cross and shamrocks, and references the club’s 1961 establishment in the Sunset District of The City.
The black secondary kits sport modern vertical texturing, green accents on the shoulders and sleeves, as well as the Glens’ white alternate shamrock logo, distinguishing the tops with their sleek design.
With three letters, “U.T.G” on the back neck sign-off of the jersey, the charcoal apparel honors the enduring “Up the Glens!” chant and the community integral to the club since its founding.
Jerseys are now available for pre-order online at sfglens.com/shop.
The first opportunity fans will have to buy the new jerseys in person will be May 20 when the Glens debut their green-and-white home tops at their USL2 home opener against Marin FC Legends.
